Getting Started

Who can use Word Whizz?

Word Whizz can be used by children who need extra literacy support, those looking for more practise, or families who want to extend their child's learning. It is also ideal for families homeschooling their children.

What age group is it designed for?

Word Whizz is best suited for children aged 5 to 10, but older children needing extra support can also benefit.

Early help with literacy is crucial for children because it sets a strong foundation for their academic success and cognitive development. Waiting too long to address literacy challenges can lead to bigger gaps in learning, making it harder for children to catch up later.

Which hub should my child start with?

Most children begin at Hub 1 (Foundation) and progress sequentially to Hub 4 (Mastery).

However, if your child has some literacy skills, they may start at Hub 2, 3, or 4. To check which hub is most suitable for your child to start at, complete the simple test when shopping for your hub.

You can also watch our explanation video within each hub for guidance, or contact us here.

What skills are covered in each hub?

Each hub follows a structured sequence:

  1. Reading and writing individual sounds
  2. Reviewing the previous lesson
  3. Learning and practising a new skill
  4. Applying the new skill through word and sentence writing

For a more detailed explanation on the skills learnt, visit the online hubs.

How does Word Whizz help children with learning difficulties like dyslexia?

Our Structured Literacy approach is research-based and highly effective for children with dyslexia. It provides:

  • Step-by-step, systematic teaching
  • Repeated practice at different levels (letters, sounds, words, and sentences)
  • Unlimited access to workshops so children can revisit lessons as needed

Research shows children with dyslexia may need 3-4 times more practice than their peers, which is why we offer ongoing access to all workshops.

Pricing & Access

How much does each hub cost?

Each hub includes 7-10 workshops. See the pricing breakdown:

  • Hub 1 → $105
  • Hub 2 → $140
  • Hub 3 → $120
  • Hub 4 → $135

Buy 2 hubs → Save 10%

Buy 3 hubs → Save 15%

Buy 4 hubs → Save 20%

Why do the hub prices vary, and how do they compare to the cost of a private tutor?

Each hub is designed around a specific skill set, and the number of workshops included in each one can vary—so the price reflects the amount of content you're getting.

Compared to hiring a private tutor, our hubs are very cost-effective. While a single hour with a tutor can cost as much (or more) than an entire hub, our program gives you lifetime access. That means your child can revisit the workshops as many times as they like, whenever it suits your family’s schedule. There’s no need to book sessions or stick to a fixed timetable—you have the flexibility to learn at your own pace, on your own terms.

How do I purchase a hub?

Visit our Hub page, choose your hub(s), and complete your purchase.

How long do I have access to a hub?

You have lifetime access to all workshops in the hub(s) you purchase.

Do you offer discounts?

Yes! The more hubs you buy at once, the more you save. See pricing above for bundle discounts.

Using the Platform

What device do I need?

We recommend using a laptop, computer, or iPad that is connected to the internet for the best experience. An iPhone or small-screen device is not suitable.

Do I need to download any software?

No downloads are required! Workshops are delivered via an online link. After purchasing, you'll receive a link to access your hub(s).

What materials do we need at home?

  • A large-screen device that's connected to the internet (laptop, computer, or iPad)
  • Pen or pencil
  • Paper (We recommend using our free Word Whizz Paper, available in your hub folder after purchase.)

How long does each workshop take?

Each workshop takes around 40 minutes, but every child is different—some may take longer or shorter.

How can I be sure that the content being taught is based on the latest research and best practices?

Our founder keeps up to date with the latest literacy research to ensure the workshops reflect the most current and effective teaching practices.

Since the workshops are created online, our founder has ongoing access to update and adjust the content as needed, ensuring it always aligns with the latest research and best practices in literacy education.

Supporting your Child

What is my role as a parent or tutor?

We recommend that an adult actively supports their child’s learning. This helps you understand their progress and guide them when needed. Parents, grandparents, and tutors can all benefit from learning alongside children!

What should I do if my child hasn’t fully mastered a sound or spelling pattern after completing the workshop?

Revisit the workshops as many times as needed! We recommend repeating the workshop until your child feels confident before moving to the next one.

This is a great video that can support your child (and their adult helper) to pronounce the sounds correctly: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SePU-T4S-js

What should I do if my child keeps writing letters backwards?

Hub 1 (Foundation) introduces letters gradually, with step-by-step guidance.

We use a multi-sensory approach to help children write letters correctly. Try using our recommended activities in the workshops for extra practice.

Why do children learn to read and write the same words?

Reading and spelling are closely connected.

Learning to read and write the same words reinforces understanding, improving literacy skills more effectively.

What are irregular words, and why are they only in Hub 1?

Irregular words don’t follow normal spelling rules, so children memorise them first. As they advance, they’ll naturally learn how to read and spell all words.

What is the purpose of dictated sentences?

Dictation helps children:

  • Apply phonics, spelling, and grammar in context
  • Strengthen their memory, writing fluency, and listening skills
  • Build confidence in reading and writing

What is Word Whizz Paper?

Word Whizz Paper is a structured worksheet that helps children organise their writing.

It’s available for free. Simply download it in your hub folder after purchase.

How can I get support if I need help?
